Michigan RV selling guide · For private owners

Sell Your RV in Michigan

EasyRVBuyer accepts inquiries from people selling their own motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels in Michigan. Older RVs, units kept in storage, and vehicles with mechanical, water, or structural problems may also be considered.

Share your RV's year, make, model, condition, and location to begin an individual evaluation. An inquiry does not guarantee an offer or purchase.

RV eligibility

What Types of RVs Does EasyRVBuyer Consider?

Evaluation details differ depending on whether the RV has its own engine or is designed to be towed. The private-owner program focuses on these three categories.

Motorized RVs

Motorhomes

Describe mileage, drivability, maintenance history, and known mechanical problems. A motorhome that starts and drives is different from one with engine or transmission trouble, or uncertain condition after long storage.

If it does not run, note when it last operated and whether the issue has been diagnosed. Starting the engine alone does not establish roadworthiness.

Towable RVs

Travel Trailers

Describe roof seals, flooring, walls, slide-outs, frame, tires, brakes, and towing connections. Mention leaks or damaged areas and whether the trailer has been moved or checked for towing safety recently.

Towable RVs

Fifth Wheels

Share details about roof and slide-out condition, the frame, landing gear, and fifth-wheel hitch connection. Storage access and towing readiness matter, especially if a hitch or structural issue could affect movement.

Eligibility for RV categories outside these three should be confirmed before assuming they qualify.

Condition and repairs

Can You Sell a Damaged or Non-Running RV?

An RV does not need to be in excellent condition to be submitted for evaluation. EasyRVBuyer considers inquiries about normal wear, mechanical problems, water damage, structural concerns, and non-running units.

  • Older motorhomes with cosmetic wear or maintenance needs.
  • Motorhomes that do not start or drive.
  • Travel trailers with known roof leaks or soft flooring.
  • Fifth wheels with slide-out or interior deterioration.
  • RVs that have remained unused for extended periods.

Damage severity matters. An RV with a small repair is different from one with extensive deterioration or a condition that prevents safe movement. Salvage, rebuilt, flood-related, and other unusual titles require individual review.

How it works

How to Request an RV Evaluation

The process begins with information about your specific RV. Sending an inquiry does not create an automatic purchase agreement.

Provide the basics

Share the RV's year, make, model, category, condition, and Michigan location. Include motorhome mileage or towability details when applicable.

Describe problems and photos

Identify known defects. Recent pictures, additional details, or an inspection may be requested to assess the RV further.

Review a possible offer

If an offer is available, examine its amount and conditions, including whether inspection or ownership verification could affect the terms.

Confirm transaction details

If both parties decide to proceed, clarify documents, liens, payment, and transportation responsibilities. No fixed completion time is promised.

Seller preparation

What Should You Prepare Before Contacting Us?

Accurate information is more useful than a long description filled with guesses. These details are a practical starting point:

  • Identity: Year, make, model, and RV category.
  • Location: Michigan city and where the RV is parked or stored.
  • Operation: Whether it starts, drives, or can be safely towed.
  • Mileage: Recorded odometer reading for a motorhome, if available.
  • Condition: Known water, roof, floor, structural, or mechanical concerns.
  • Ownership: Title availability, named owners, and any outstanding loan.
  • Photos: Current exterior, interior, and visible damage.

Photograph the actual condition

Start with front, rear, both sides, and the main living area. Include accessible views of the kitchen, bathroom, and problem areas. Show the location of a leak, soft floor, or damaged component when possible.

Do not climb onto an unsafe roof, crawl under an unstable RV, or operate damaged equipment just to take photos. Mention what has not been inspected or tested.

During the initial inquiry, describe a loan or title problem without sending bank details, Social Security numbers, identity-document images, or financial account credentials through a general form.

Understanding a potential offer

What Can Affect Your RV's Value?

An RV's value depends on more than model year. For a motorhome, mileage, mechanical condition, maintenance, and drivability can influence buyer interest.

For travel trailers and fifth wheels, structural integrity, water intrusion, interior condition, towing components, and expected repairs may be especially relevant.

Other considerations include model specifications, market demand, title status, RV location, and the arrangements necessary to complete a sale.

These are general evaluation factors, not a published EasyRVBuyer pricing formula. No particular resale amount is guaranteed.

Before accepting any proposal

  • Ask if the stated amount is conditional on inspection.
  • Understand which ownership documents are needed.
  • Confirm who arranges and pays for transportation.
  • Clarify payment method and when funds will be available.
  • Compare the proposed terms with other realistic selling options.

A direct offer is not automatically the highest amount an RV could obtain through a completed private sale.

Michigan-specific rule: Travel trailers and fifth wheels are trailer coaches. Michigan requires all trailer coaches to be titled, even though the general title exemption applies to some ordinary trailers weighing less than 2,500 pounds. Trailer coaches also use permanent trailer registration plates. See the state's RV and trailer guidance.

Condition after storage

Michigan Weather and RV Storage Considerations

Seasonal conditions can suggest worthwhile inspections, but they do not establish that any particular RV is damaged. Describe what you have actually observed or tested.

Winter storage and plumbing

After an RV has been parked through freezing weather, check for visible plumbing leaks, damaged fittings, staining, or dampness near tanks and water connections if it is safe to do so. Winterization history can help, but it is not proof that every system currently works.

If the water system has not been tested since storage, say so.

Snow, seams, and moisture

The NOAA Michigan climate summary documents especially heavy snowfall in parts of the Upper Peninsula and western Lower Peninsula. For an RV stored outdoors, inspect accessible roof seams, skylights, window seals, and slide-out areas for deterioration.

Inside, photograph visible staining, swelling, soft flooring, or other moisture signs without assuming the source or extent of damage.

Road exposure and non-use

Michigan uses salt and other winter road treatments. RVs driven or towed on treated roads may be worth checking for visible corrosion on accessible metal components, including frames and running gear.

Long storage can also leave batteries, tires, brakes, or machinery untested. Distinguish an unknown condition from a confirmed failure.

Location and access

Michigan RV Transportation and Access

Where the RV is parked matters, particularly if it cannot be driven or towed safely. Michigan's two peninsulas, rural properties, seasonal roads, and storage facilities can create different practical requirements.

City access versus rural properties

Access near routes such as I-75, I-94, or I-96 may differ from access to a narrow driveway, restricted campground, or rural storage lot. Provide the actual RV location, not just the nearest major city.

Describe gates, access hours, soft ground, turning space, and whether the vehicle can roll and steer or the trailer's hitch, tires, brakes, and frame are suitable for towing.

Upper Peninsula and Mackinac Bridge

The Mackinac Bridge connects Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. The bridge authority applies wind-related advisories, escorts, restrictions, and closures that can affect high-profile vehicles. See official Mackinac Bridge wind guidance.

Not every Upper Peninsula transport requires crossing the bridge. The actual route, RV dimensions, and conditions determine whether it is relevant.

Spring road limits and specialized recovery

Michigan applies seasonal weight restrictions to some roads during spring thaw; local roads may have separate restrictions. This can matter when specialized heavy transport or recovery equipment is needed.

It does not mean ordinary, legally towable RVs automatically require oversize permits. See MDOT's transport requirements.

Clarify responsibilities before handover

Before accepting proposed terms, ask who arranges transportation, whether charges apply, and how keys, title paperwork, property access, and payment will be handled.

No universal pickup date, transportation fee, or free-towing arrangement is promised by submitting an inquiry.

Compare your choices

Direct RV Buyer, Private Listing, Consignment, or Trade-In?

A direct offer is one option, not automatically the best financial outcome for every owner. Consider expected proceeds, time, effort, expenses, and uncertainty.

Selling directly

A direct buyer may offer to purchase the RV after evaluation, potentially reducing advertising and retail-buyer negotiations. Its offer may be lower than a price achieved in a successful private sale.

Private listing

You set an asking price and negotiate with buyers, but you handle inquiries, showings, payment verification, and ownership transfer. A listing price is not a guaranteed completed-sale price.

Consignment

A business may handle marketing and buyer communications. Review commissions, storage fees, insurance responsibilities, minimum terms, and when proceeds are paid before signing.

Trade-in

A trade-in may be convenient when replacing your RV. Compare the entire replacement transaction, including its selling price and financing, rather than only the allowance.

When might a direct offer help? It can be worth comparing when the RV is unused, storage expenses are mounting, or you are deciding whether to undertake repairs. Keeping or privately selling the RV may still be better for your circumstances.

Common owner questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Selling an RV in Michigan

Does EasyRVBuyer consider RVs owned by private individuals?

Yes. The private-owner program accepts inquiries about personally owned motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels in Michigan. Each RV is evaluated individually, and an inquiry does not guarantee an offer or completed purchase.

Can I inquire about an RV with an outstanding loan?

Yes. Explain that a lender still has an interest in the RV. The loan, lien release, and title documentation must be addressed for any potential transaction. Do not assume EasyRVBuyer automatically pays off the loan.

What if my Michigan RV title is missing?

Michigan offers duplicate-title procedures for eligible owners. An electronic lien or unusual ownership record may change the process. Address the missing title early; a bill of sale alone does not automatically satisfy a required title.

What if the RV is titled in another state?

Identify the issuing state, recorded owners, and any lienholder. Out-of-state documents can affect the procedure. Simply storing an RV in Michigan does not make its existing title a Michigan title.

Will you consider a motorhome that does not start?

Non-running motorhomes may be evaluated. Describe the mechanical issues and whether the vehicle can roll, steer, or be moved safely. Any purchase and transport arrangements depend on the individual RV and location.

What if two people are listed on the title?

Michigan generally requires all recorded owners to sign an ordinary assignment. If an owner is deceased or unavailable, additional estate or representative documentation may be necessary. Confirm the right procedure before transfer.

How is RV transportation arranged?

Transportation responsibilities are discussed for each potential purchase. Location, access, vehicle condition, and equipment needs can affect the arrangements. A universal free-towing policy or guaranteed pickup schedule has not been established.
